WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF

NARBOROUGH PARISH COUNCIL

The local council for

Narborough & Littlethorpe

Next Meeting

The next meeting of the Parish Council will take place on Tuesday 17th August 2010 at 7.30pm, at the Parish Centre, Desford Road, Narborough. As always there will be an opportunity to discuss any items concerning the parish with a councillor from 7pm.

The full agenda is now available on the meetings calendar.

New Youth Club for Narborough Village

Narborough Youth Club had a successful opening/consultation event on 9th July. Twelve young people attended and enjoyed team building games and shared in a discussion about what they want from their Club. Seven adult volunteers were also on hand to help the two qualified leaders.

20 young people came to the choosing resources event and we are now in the process of ordering items they have chosen.

The Club will meet on Thursday 19th August 3.30pm to 5.30pm at the Parish Centre for a games afternoon, inside if wet or on Narborough Park if the weather is fine.

It's not too late, we still would like to see more young people enjoying the Club. You can come to any of the events as they are planned and the Club will open on a weekly basis from September. Keep an eye on this site and the village noticeboards for more information.

Best Kept Allotment Competition

The Best Kept Allotment Competition took place on Sunday 25th July. The Judges were Terry and Louise Richardson and Pauline Thomas: all three agreed that it was a very difficult decision to choose a winner and were impressed by the general condition of the majority of the plots. The winners of the Cup were Jim and Linda Stanley on Plot 26. Joint runners up were Lesley Reading Plot 8 and Steve Hall Plot 4. Scott Shelley on Plot 35B was given special mention for a much improved plot over the last twelve months.

The George Winterton Cup was awarded for the first time this year by the Allotment Committee Members, on this occasion it was awarded for "variety of crops, quality and protection of crops" and went to Lesley Reading for Plot 48. Tom Pocock of Plot 12A was runner up.

Parish Chairman attends Queen's Garden Party

I was very honoured to have been nominated by Leicestershire & Rutland Association of Local Councils (LRALC) to attend the Queen's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 20th July.

They say everyone has 5 minutes of fame, I think mine was the tourists taking our photos whilst we were queing up to go in.

When the Queen arrived, whilst I didn't actually meet her, I was lucky enough to be stood 3 feet away from her when she was introduced to a serviceman and his wife.

After having afternoon tea, my daughter and I walked around the grounds which were magnificent.

The sun shone all day which helped to make it a day to remember.

Works to the Parish Church Clock were completed in early 2010. Many thanks to all who donated to the Chairman's Appeal which raised over £3400: with additional donations and grant funding from various bodies a grand total of £7809.73 was raised in support of this work. You can see the results were well worth the efforts.
